Robert Martinez began his journey in the jewelry business alongside his late wife, Ann Marie. The seeds of their venture were sown in 1999 when Robert was working as a sales representative for IBM. During a routine sales call to a jewelry company in Miami, he stumbled upon a magazine that sparked his interest in the world of jewelry. Intrigued by the vibrant designs and craftsmanship, Robert decided to explore this newfound passion further. He enrolled in correspondence courses in gemology and traveled to New York to expand his knowledge of diamonds and colored stones, often experimenting with his own microscope at home. It was during his time at IBM that Robert met Ann Marie, who was an executive secretary. Both shared a common entrepreneurial spirit. Ann Marie’s family had immigrated from Italy when she was just ten years old, and she quickly adapted, mastering English and helping her father in his cabinet-making business. Her early work ethic and dedication laid the foundation for their future endeavors. Ultimately, both Robert and Ann Marie’s experiences at IBM shaped their philosophies on customer service and business ethics.
In 2001, after they married, the couple decided to take a leap of faith and start their own jewelry business. With their savings of $10,000, they purchased a small house in Miami, Florida, which they converted into their first jewelry store, JewelsRestored.
